Toyota Corolla2014 Toyota Corolla Review

There has been talk about the 2014 Toyota Corolla, specifically about the complete redesign that it received. Some say it needed the redesign, some say that it doesn't really need a redesign since the previous model was a best-selling unit in its category. For some car enthusiasts they feel that it deserved the redesign since the technology of the previous model lags behind compared to its competitors (it still has a cassette tape function in the age of CDs and MP3s.

Again, if it is based on the overall sales performance of the Corolla it didn't need any tweaks and could just stay cruising. However Toyota is currently updating and recalibrating their lineup which is now focused on technology and style, and it didn't forget about their iconic best-selling sedan. Speaking of redesign, the 2014 Corolla has received the most detailed overhaul in history. There is a better and more improved fuel economy due to the new continuously variable automatic transmission or CVT, there is a much bolder design, the high-tech cabin has a larger back seat, and lastly the vehicle now is more responsive.

If you fell in love with previous models of the Corolla, you can still find bits and pieces of the old design's essence in the 2014 Corolla. The riding experience is still as smooth and as obedient as before, the controls are still also laid out rationally. This means you don't need to jump ship if you are a loyalist to the Corolla model from the very beginning. The 2014 model just has more boldness as before since Toyota wants to improve the crossover appeal of the Corolla.

2014-chevy-malibu2014 Chevrolet Malibu

Recently, almost all of the top rated and best-selling vehicles in the midsize sedan category in the United States received an upgrade or an overall reboot. One of which is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, but this vehicle is unique since it has been given extensive upgrades for two consecutive years.

The brand new Malibu was introduced through the 2013 model year but it immediately received crushing reviews and criticism both from the experts and the consumers. The reasons for the stumble of the all-new 2013 Malibu differ depending on the person you are talking to. This however is irrelevant not unless you are thinking of buying from the leftover new units or getting a used but certified pre-owned unit.

Due to the negative impression and reviews that the 2013 Malibu received from the midsize sedan category, Chevrolet rushed a re-hash through the project-approval system of General Motors. The result of this is a much better and improved 2014 Malibu that will surely make you want to buy.

Exterior Design

The exterior design was not part of the problem areas of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. Nonetheless the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu was still given an exterior update, specifically its front end. The update to the look resulted to a more consistent look across the Chevrolet's range of sedans. It depends on your taste on whether or not the new Malibu's design is appealing to you. Overall it still looks like that the 2014 Malibu needs to lose a bit more regardless if you upgrade to the larger model.

Interior Design

Perhaps one of the biggest criticism that the 2013 Malibu received is the tight rear-seat room, this is because the previous model, the 2012 Malibu, was more spacious. As for the 2014 Malibu, Chevrolet has given it a new look specifically for the front-seat and rear-seat so that the rear seat passengers get extra leg room, 1.25 inches to be exact. The specific changes include the restructured front-seat backs which were made hollow to provide an adult passenger's knees more space. Aside from that, the rear-seat cushions were also designed differently to allow the passengers to be able to sit deeper in the 2014 Malibu. The combined upgrade allows a tall passenger (around 6 feet tall) to ride the Malibu with minimum complaints. The update for the rear-seat passenger leg room means that the Malibu is worthy of being part of anybody's shopping list for the midsize sedan category. The downside is that overall it is still a bit cramped as compared to the other vehicles in the same category.

The additional features for the all new interior of the 2014 Malibu include a new gray and black simulated-wood trim that is available for the LT and LTZ units and a restructured center console that is outfitted with a lengthier center-console armrest.

Features of the 2014 Malibu

As previously mentioned, the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu has a restructured center console. This center console has a lengthier armrest plus two phone slots. This feature makes carrying beverages as well as devices at the same time trouble-free. The Malibu LS and LT trim models have air conditioning systems that are furnished with the new humidity sensor. The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu also has a safety system and a new infotainment system available, both of which are great functional features.

Technology Features

When you purchase a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu it is best that you choose one that can be furnished with the optional MyLink infotainment system. With this infotainment system you can utilize and take advantage of the Siri Eyes Free technology if you own an iPhone that runs on either iOs 6 or iOs 7. This technology will enable you to listen to music from your own iTunes library, make calls, and more. The 2014 MyLink infotainment system also provides iPhone users the latest text-to-voice capability. This capability reads messages from the audio system of the 2014 Malibu. Drivers can reply to the text message via the pre-programmed messages. An example is the ôI"m driving right now. Don't you know that it is dangerous to text and drive?

Safety Features

The safety features of the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu also received an update. The Safety Package, which is offered as an optional feature, now has additional features such as the rear cross-traffic alert and the side blind-zone alert added to its current lane-departure warning system and forward collision alert. For the price that it asks for the Safety Package option to be added, it is a bargain. This option is made available to most of the trims of the 2014 Malibu. The downside to this is that before you can get the safety package, you will need to get the leather seats and other add-ons first.

The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu is now a good choice if you are looking into buying a vehicle from the midsize sedan segment. Even though the rear-seat is still not as spacious as the other options available, it has a 5-star safety rating, reasonable price, and improved fuel-economy ratings. You can get to know more about this vehicle from Baierl Automotive. For information on the different trim offerings and optional add-ons per trim just get in touch with Baierl Automotive.

Nissan_Altima_20132015_Chevy_MalibuBetter Midsize Sedan: 2014 Chevrolet Malibu or the 2014 Nissan Altima?

If you are looking into buying a new midsize sedan and you want an alternative choice from the best-selling Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Ford Fusion units you can consider the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu or the 2014 Nissan Altima. If you are confuse and you want to decide between the Malibu and the Altima look no further. Baierl Automotive can help you solve your dilemma in deciphering which of the two is better for you. Before we go into detail on which unit is better in specific areas we will give you a brief overview of the changes for the 2014 model year.

2014 Nissan Altima Updates

The previous model of the Nissan Altima was redesigned already but they are not holding back with the 2014 Altima. For starters the NissanConnect system is upgraded and even has new features, aside from this infotainment and safety technologies are now made available for most of the trims.

2014 Chevrolet Malibu Updates

The previous model of the Chevrolet Malibu was given a full reboot but even so, the 2014 Malibu has notable upgrades such as a more improved fuel economy, a new infotainment technology, revised styling, greater room at the rear-seat, more safety features, upgraded driving dynamics and more.

It may come as a surprise for you but most expect that the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu can deliver better reliability as compared to the 2014 Nissan Altima. This is based from Consumer Reports and J.D. Power data, wherein the ratings of the projected dependability of the Malibu is better. Aside from that J.D. Power also shared that the quality rating of the Malibu is higher as well.

Malibu also has a longer engine warranty (5 year/100,000 mile) that unfortunately Nissan can't match. Aside from that it can't also match the other perks offered by Chevrolet such as the free roadside assistance programs for the same period of time and the free scheduled maintenance that owners can enjoy for two years/24,000 miles.

In this category alone, the Chevy is the winner. It has better reliability and quality ratings plus better perks as compared to Nissan.

Engine and Fuel Economy

If in terms of reliability the Malibu is projected to deliver well, in terms of fuel economy it is the 2014 Nissan Altima which delivers superior numbers. Both of the vehicles comes standard with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine.

In terms of power the Malibu's engine can deliver more and it also has an automatic stop/start system. That being said the engine is placed in a unit that weighs more than the 2014 Altima. In terms of the fuel economy returns, the Environmental Protection Agency or EPA has estimated the return of the Altima to be at 31 miles per gallon. The Malibu only gets 29 mpg.

If you think that getting the Malibu Eco model will mean that you have an improved or better fuel economy return due to the eAssist light -electrification hybrid engine, you are wrong. According to the EPA it has almost the same fuel economy returns as the standard 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine.

Each of the vehicle though gives buyers the option to upgrade to a more powerful engine. The 2014 Malibu offers a turbocharged 4-cylinder powertrain which can make 259 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The estimated fuel economy returns of this engine from the EPA is at 24 mpg. The 2014 Altima on the other hand offers a 3.5 liter V6 engine which makes 270 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine's fuel economy returns on the other hand is rated at 25 mpg.

If you seek better fuel economy returns, the 2014 Nissan Altima should be your choice.

Safety Features and Ratings

The 2014 Nissan Altima and 2014 Chevrolet Malibu have expanded safety features. For the 2014 Malibu, it now has the additional safety features: Rear Cross-Traffic Alert System, Siri Eyes Free technology which includes hands-free text messaging, and Side Blind Zone Alert system. As for the 2014 Altima the availability of the following safety features has been expanded to the popular Altima SV trim: Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, and Moving Object Detection system.

As for the safety review or crash testing results, the Altima received better ratings than the Malibu. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has given the Altima an overall 5-star rating. I also received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) Top Safety Pick rating.

For the 2014 Malibu, the NHTSA rates its performance at five stars for frontal impact protection and four stars for rollover resistance. The IIHS on the other hand has given it its top rating of Good in four of its crash tests and a basic rating for the front crash prevention test.

Safety wise, the Altima is safer but the Malibu is also a good pick.

If your main concern is fuel economy and safety the 2014 Nissan Altima is a good pick. However, in terms of reliability the Malibu is expected to perform better. Its safety features is not far behind and it has more technology updates to offer versus the Altima. In the end both vehicles are good options. If you are still confused you can get in touch with Baierl Automotive to help you decide which one to buy.

2015_Chevy_CRuze2015 Chevrolet Cruze Review

Hailed before as one of the best compact car made by General Motors in decades, Chevrolet Cruze unfortunately has started to fall behind its compact car competition - wherein most had undergone a redesign as well as big upgrades in terms of interior quality, technology, affordability, and refinement.

This changes as the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze enters the picture. The current model offers a fresher and a more contemporary take on styling and it even has some added connectivity options that will help keep it fresh until the release of the next generation. However it still hasn't taken the crown of being the top choice in the small vehicle segment which belongs to the Kia Forte, the more updated 2015 Ford Focus, and the Mazda3. Even if it is not the top choice for some it is still a good and strong contender for the category.

Engine Options and Fuel Economy

The 2015 Cruze has three engine options available for buyers. First is the base engine which is a 1.8 liter inline-4 that can make up to 138 horsepower and up to 125 lb-ft of torque. It can be operated either by the standard 6-speed manual transmission or the optional 6-speed automatic. The Environment Protection Agency has estimated the fuel economy return of this engine to be at 25 miles per gallon in the city and 36 mpg on highway with the standard manual transmission, or 22 mpg city/35 mpg hwy with the optional automatic transmission.

The next engine option available is the 1.4 liter turbocharged inline-4 powerplant which can be paired with either the manual or automatic transmission. This engine can only produce the same horsepower as the first engine, but can produce up to 138 lb-ft of torque. EPA rated the fuel economy return of this engine at 26 mpg city/38 mpg hwy with either manual or automatic transmission.

Also present is the Cruze Eco model. This one is solely propelled by the 1.4 turbo engine but has an additional series of aero upgrades as well as low-rolling resistance tires that can help optimize efficiency. As for its fuel economy, it tops what the other subcompact cars and hybrids can offer. Its rated fuel economy returns is at 28 mpg city/42 mpg hwy with the manual transmission or 26 mpg city/39 mpg hwy with the automatic transmission.

Lastly is the newly introduced Cruze Diesel which uses a 2.0 liter turbodiesel engine which makes 151 hp. This is only mated with the 6 speed automatic transmission and the estimated fuel economy return of this engine is at 27 mpg city/46 mpg on hwy.

Trims and Features

There are five trim levels that buyers can choose from. You can get to know a more detailed breakdown of each trim from Baierl Automative. Below is just a snapshot of the features and options available for each trim:

  • Cruze LT. This is the mid-level trim offering which is available in two versions:

    • 1 LT. This trim adds features such as cruise control, alloy wheels, and a leather wrapped steering wheel. Similarly the Cruze Eco model of the 2015 Cruze has the same equipment except for some of the aerodynamic tweaks.
    • 2LT. With this trim features added include leather upholstery, a power driver's seat, heated front seats and Chevrolet's MyLink plus the 7-in center-mounted touchscreen.
    • Cruze Diesel. This trim is equipped with the same features of the Cruze 2LT except for the engine.

    • Cruze LT. Topping the range offering for the 2015 Cruze, this trim has a push-button start, automatic climate control, and a rear view camera. The main options included for this trim are the premium audio system and sunroof.

    Safety Features and Test Results

The 2015 Cruze has the following standard safety equipment, a 10 standard airbag feature (which is rare for compact cars) which means that aside from the front, side and head curtain bags there are also airbags placed at the knees of the driver as well as front passengers and also two side airbags for the rear outboard. It also has stability control and ABS.

The optional safety package offered for the 2015 Cruze include blind-spot warning, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic warning which are usually part of the standard safety features of the more expensive models.

As for the safety review or rating of the 2015 Cruze, it received an overall rating of 5-stars from the crash tests performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It was able to get that rating after having a perfect score in both side and frontal impacts and a 4 star rating in the rollover protection test.

    2013-sienna-toyota-kelly2014 Toyota Sienna Review

Aimed at being the best, the formula of the 2014 Toyota Sienna is all about winning. Prior to the release of the 2014 Sienna Toyota dropped the 4 cylinder engine. An additional feature was added to the option list, the very much publicized Entune infotainment system. As for the 2014 model, there is only a few changes made and mostly was for making the van more attractive to potential buyers, one such change is the blind spot monitoring system which is a standard feature on the Sienna SE.

Speaking of the updates for the 2014 model, it now has the V6 engine that is best in its class, new and updated technology options, all-wheel drive, and the well-designed storage and seating features. The only weakest link, the 4-cylinder engine, is not even present anymore since it has been already dropped by Toyota. This makes the 2014 Toyota Sienna the best minivan option on the market.

    Trims and Standard Features

There are four trim options for people who want to purchase the 2014 Toyota Sienna:

    • Sienna L. This is base trim offering of the 2014 Sienna. The features of this model include a 3-zone manual climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, power accessories, cruise control, a 4-speaker audio system that has an auxiliary audio jack but no Bluetooth or iPod connectivity, and 7-passenger seating capacity. The price range for a new unit is over $25,000 which can be a bit too much.
    • LE. This is the mid-range offering of the 2014 Sienna which includes additional features such as an easy-clean upholstery, a power lift gate, 8-passenger seating capacity, dual power sliding doors, a 6 speaker audio system that has iPod/USB as well as Bluetooth connectivity, an auto-dimming rear view mirror with Homelink, a power driver seat that has an adjustable lumbar support, and a 3.5 in information display that has a rear view camera.
    • XLE. With this trim option you get a sunroof, leather upholstery, and heated front seats as part of the standard features. Additional options include a 16.4 in split-screen rear entertainment system as well as a 10 speaker premium JBL sound system.
    • Limited. This is the top range trim offering of the 2014 Toyota Sienna. With this trim you will go back to the 7-passenger seating capacity but you will get lavish lounge like recliners for your second-row seats. This trim also offers what according to Toyota is the first dual-pane sunroof wherein both of the panes can fully retract. The additional options for this trim include the adaptive cruise control and the xenon headlamps.
    • SE. This is the sporty trim offering of the 2014 Sienna. This model sacrifices some of the features offered in the XLE and Limited trims. It does have unique features such as a lowered sport-tuned suspension, an aggressive body kit, a blind monitoring system, as well as a unique instrumentation and interior trim.

Optional feature across the trims except for the Sienna L and Limited is the Entune mobile app integration.

    Safety Features and Ratings

The standard safety features of the 2014 Sienna includes seven airbags (this includes full-length side-curtain airbags), 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, and active front headrests.

For the safety ratings, the 2014 Sienna received four out of five star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA. It received four stars for the frontal impact test and five stars for the side impact test. As for the rating received from the independent group Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Sienna was awarded the highest score available across all of the crash-test categories.

    Driving Experience

The 2014 Toyota Sienna provides a pleasant driving experience as compared to other vehicles of the same size or vehicles from the same category. It is still a large minivan which means it is not that agile but it has good visibility and light steering.

Trim wise the best or the most noteworthy option is the SE or the sport trim. It may not be the cheapest choice in the category but it provides the best driving experience. You can get to know more from Baierl Automotive for more information and to help you decide if the SE is the best trim for you or not.
